Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) is getting slammed by irate leftists after introducing a bill into the U.S. House aimed at requiring that infants born alive after botched abortions receive proper medical care.

While far from abolishing the practice of abortion, the proposed legislation was so dangerously close to being pro-life on Gabbard’s part that pro-abortion activists initiated the predictable meltdown.

“Tulsi Gabbard also introduced a redundant bill that claims to protect infants in the infinitesimally rare cases they are born after attempted abortions,” feminist Jill Filipovic wrote on Twitter.

Filipivoc noted that “infants are already legally protected.”

Fox News notes that Democrats generally argue that infants are already legally protected by the Born Alive Infant Protection Act of 2002, which established that the terms “person,” “human being,” “child,” and “individual” in federal law include infants born alive—even those who had survived an abortion.

Of course, all of these terms are most accurately applied to unborn persons, human beings, children, and individuals as well if you refer to ultimate objective truth, biology, reason, and morality.

And, as pointed out by National Review’s Alexandra DeSanctis in 2019, the 2002 law “did not contain criminal penalties or enforcement mechanisms to punish abortion providers who failed to give medical attention and care to these infants.”

This is apparently what pro-aborts oppose when they oppose born alive legislation like that introduced by the Democratic congresswoman.

Rewire editor Imani Gandy tagged Gabbard on Twitter, claiming that born alive babies were not “a thing.”

“Hi, @TulsiGabbard,” she wrote. “You seem to be under the impression that born alive is a thing. It is not. Shame on you. I don’t know what your problem is but you’re turning out to be a real right wing s–t heel.”

Fox News notes that in 2003 and 2014, 143 infants were born alive after an attempted abortion.

For reference, in 2019, roughly 40 unarmed Americans were shot and killed by police according to a database from the left-leaning Washington Post.

The legislation, along with a bill that would ban biological males from participating in women’s sports, have earned Gabbard a renewed wave of claims she is just a tool of the right.
